DECEMBER'07 NEWS
| Still no real concrete news regarding the get together of the 1970 line-up of MUNGO JERRY - RAY DORSET, PAUL KING, COLIN EARL and MIKE COLE - other than to say that from what I have been told, they have all agreed to do something. As previously reported, they were just outside of the time frame allowed to get to play at this years GUIL-FEST, but other projects are being looked at.
Ray is recovering after a stay in hospital and an operation on let's say, 'a delicate area', and is looking at finishing off the various recording projects he has on the go at the moment - the UK line-up's EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES album and the German Bluesband's WHEN SHE COMES, SHE RUNS ALL OVER ME. PAUL KING is, between renovating his new house, back in the studio with JEFF WARD working on a new album. He already has a few brand new tracks 'in the can' as they say.
The official PAUL KING site is located at www.paulking.info We were all saddened to hear of the sudden death of former bass player BYRON CONTOSTAVLOS, who played with the band with his brother PLATON during the 90's. Both of them played on the CANDY DREAMS album. Our condolences to his family and friends.

A brand new version of 'IN THE SUMMERTIME'has been recorded by BOB SONIC, combining electronic influence, a slice of reggae, club animation and party off-beat: Below are shots taken from the video shoot and as you can see, Ray played no small part in the preceedings. The Radio Promo Pack was to go out on Friday (24th August) to 220 stations. The CD will be cover-mounted on a thick paper sheet.
The release date was 09/06/07, on zDynmamicx, and the catalogue number is Z4012. It has charted all over the place and is in the German DDP - Dance charts, Click here to check out the chart position |

After an amazingly long wait, the 2 CD sets of both RAY DORSET's 'GONNA BOP'TIL I DROP' and PAUL KING's 'WINDS OF CHANGE', are now available from the shop. Both are fantastic sets jam-packed with rarities and feature fascinating pictures and sleevenotes, with many quotes taken from the MUNGOMANIA site.
ALAN CLAYSON reviewed both sets in Record Collector and said..."With a basic pulse hinged on a pot pourri of home-made percussion devices, the raggedly carefree joie de vivre that MUNGO JERRY worked up in metropolitan boozers proved just as effective in the charts. Solo collections by mainstays KING and DORSET, however, prefaced a split, with principal creative pivot DORSET retaining the brand name. "Containing many rare and hitherto-unissued items, including some from pre-MUNGO outfits THE TRAMPS and THE GOOD EARTH, these two-disc retrospectives present each case for the defence. While KING lifts off with his chief contributions to the MUNGO oeuvre (of which, the mordant SAD EYED JOE is notable) it settles down to an almost enitrely seld-penned career trajectory of projects that, if chiefly short lived, remained truer to MUNGO's original quasi-skiffle vision that DORSET did. "DORSET's output was the more appealing, going for the mainstream jugular while taking steps forward in emotive subtlety. He also undertook a host of parallel ventures. The extremes of which, all form the mid-80's, are a blues-boogie exercise with PETER GREEN and a demo of HA-HA THIS-A-WAY, the irritating theme to childrens TV show WIZBIT. He redeems himself with PROSPECTS, commisioned for a prime-time drama series, and sung in a voice darker and bereft of all former ingenuousness". Thanks to legendary folk singer, JUDY DYBLE who once played in the same band (TRADER HORNE) as our own JOHN GODFREY, I can let you know of a USA based magazine featuring MUNGO JERRY. Judy told me, "thought you might be interested to know about an article which is in the current issue of the Galactic Zoo Dossier magazine. "It's a pretty weird cult psychedelic mag available from the US, but can be bought via, Amazon. Someone brought me a copy from the US as I feature on one of the Astral Folk Goddess Trading Cards that are given away with that issue, but inside the mag there is this MJ article. The whole magazine is hand drawn and hand written, I didn't manage to read much of it as my eyes went wobbly" - JUDY DYBLE. |

Our good friend in Germany, JUERGEN KEUNEKE has informed me that he is working as Project manager for the German SANDRA VOELKER foundation for children asthma and allergy problems. SANDRA VOELKER is the most successful international female swimmer of all time and is preparing for next years Olympic Games in Peking next year. Sandra has asthma herself and founded the foundation around 6 years ago. Ray has contributed to the official website (which was designed by Juergen) and has even written a fairy tale for the site, which you can find in the 'land of children/stories for kids' section. 'THE PRINCESS AND THE LAST ARCHER' is there twice, in German and in English, and as a bonus you will be able to hear the new dance version on 'IN THE SUMMERTIME', that is currently tearing up the dance charts all over Europe. On the same page, there is a link to SVS, which features some RAY DORSET related material, such as three pics of Ray you will probably not have seen before - one from the TV show, 'TIGERENTEN-cLUB', from about the time of last years Soccer World Cup.
