‘COOL JESUS’ HAS BEEN RELEASED NOW AND SEEMS TO BE VERY POPULAR WITH FANS, HOW HAPPY ARE YOU WITH IT? I'm very pleased with the album, especially the work that Bruce did on the cover. The guys played very enthusiastically and positive and the album was fun to make, 'DOC' the studio owner also had a fair bit of input. I sometimes think that the album is too long, but it's more of a showcase for the line-up and a catalogue item. HOW ABOUT ‘KICKING BACK’, IS THERE A RELEASE DATE IN PLACE? When I recorded the 'KICKING BACK' album Heini's bass player was on holiday so we recorded the tracks live in the studio but with no bass, this was added later. Now, as Jon is playing all the Heini gigs too, it has been decided that Jon should replace all of the bass parts with his own parts. I have now moved my studio back to Bournemouth so I'm hoping that we can get on with it and then get started on a complete new set of recordings, new songs etc, and in particular get an album recorded with the complete UK band with Mark and Toby.
HOW HAVE THE GIGS WITH HEINI ALTBART GONE DOWN? Heini takes a lot of pressure off of me on the gigs as it is his show, he does a lot of talking to the audience and has fun with his solos. All of the gigs have been successful and it's good that I have been on them and have been well accepted as a blues artist as well. HE IS PUTTING A NEW MUNGO JERRY WEBSITE TOGETHER ISN’T HE? Heini is putting a MUNGO JERRY.net site together to market the stuff that we do, he has a very good team over there in Vienna, his main business is as a funeral director! AND MUNGO JERRY.COM IS BEING TRANSFORMED I HEAR? This is being done by Apollo Productions in conjunction with Derek, you and the other guys, mainly for the business of recordings, gigs, promotion, merchandise etc. It should be up and running very soon if not already. HOW DIFFERENT IS IT GOING TO BE? It is just an expansion of the old site and getting into place the things that were not running correctly before. THE BOOK, ‘MUNGO JERRY & ME’ HASN’T BEEN ISSUED YET, IS THERE ANY WOULD ON THIS? The publisher closed down and we got back the rights, this is good because I really want to get it out after the legal battle has been sorted, how long this will take is anybody's guess, but we will add the stuff that was edited out, plus more info, stories, views and pictures also more comments from past band members and associates. DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS TO WORK WITH ANY FORMER BAND MEMBERS? I really don't know for sure but there is the possibilty of something special for the big festival in Sweden, Sweden's Calling, I'll keep you posted. THINGS SEEM TO BE GOING AS WELL AS THEY HAVE EVER DONE? I'm very pleased with the way that all of the gigs and TV's have been going and also the positive response that has been had from the recordings. It's also good that 'IN THE SUMMERTIME' seems to have reached three generations and is being used for so many ads, TV shows and movies around the world. ANY OTHER NEWS? There are many things in the pipeline but the objective is to get settled back in the UK with the family and get the legal stuff out of the way so that we can all get on with being positive and productive. |

Great news! MUNGO JERRY's latest album, 'COOL JESUS' has been released in Europe on the 22nd of August on the 7Music label. Distributed in the UK by Cargo, it is now available from the on-line shop The King Of The Groove is now in his 65th year, but is still recording and performing in the UK, Europe and beyond. 'COOL JESUS' is the latest studio recording by MUNGO JERRY and as usual has that carefree, happy skiffle vibe that has been around since the multi-million selling single 'IN THE SUMMERTIME'. Several TV appearances have been made in Germany, singing live the track 'GIVE US A SONG', while radio play has been centered around the catchy 'GOING UP THE RIVER'. MUNGO JERRY's gig at The Cellars at Eastney on the 28th of July has been CANCELLED - sorry for the disappointment. MUNGO JERRY.COM is being rebuilt at the moment by Apollo Productions, Bournemouth with easier access to all things business and shop. On the sales side both 'COOL JESUS' (release date - 29th August) and 'KICKIN' BACK' now have distribution deals for the UK and Europe, although the release of 'KICKIN' BACK' is being delayed as JON PLAYLE is now going to re-record the bass parts. The - RAY DORSET, PETER GREEN, VINCENT CRANE - jam sessions are now ready for a distribution deal, hopefully with someone like Eagle Rock or Snapper. Derek now has a hard drive containing a lot of old material that we used to issue as fan club CD's. He is slowly working through them, and the artworks, and all will be issued via the shop. 'THE LOST RECORDINGS', 'THE GOOD EARTH', 'NO FRILLS' with added tracks and JON PLAYLE playing double bass, etc. MARC VISCEL in the U.S.A has produced for 3 DVD's from Hollywood 2000, 'THE VILLAGE TAVERN', THE OXFORD ARMS and 'COPPICE SCHOOL'. Derek intends to make them available in September for a special price of £15 for all 3. Not HD in quality but with Marc's editing and merging of different camera angles they are a great document of a truly wonderful weekend MUNGO JERRY celebration. |

Des O'Byrne, one of the organisers of the LAZY BISHOP'S FESTIVAL in Farnham sent in this glowing review of MUNGO JERRY's performance saying, "Despite a dreadful downpour, a real lack of audience numbers and the fact that they had to move to the Acoustic Stage from the Main Stage, MUNGO JERRY put on a blinding gig that raised the spirits of the small but appreciative crowd that stayed on to see them yesterday evening. "RAY DORSET may not be the best singer in the world and he may not even be the best guitarist - but what a brilliant performer! He put everything into the gig, like a true professional and completely won the crowd over, which was an amazing achievement given the circumstances. Derek has had all the old videos converted to DVD from the 30th Anniversary gigs in Newcastle under Lyme in 2000. He has located TEN songs from the Friday afternoon gig at the Coppice Special Needs School. FORTY-TWO songs from the Saturday afternoon gig at the Village Tavern and EIGHTEEN from the Saturday night at the Oxford Arms. The problem is that we cannot remember the running order, so we are asking fans if anybody made a list of the running order(s). Long shot I know but if you did, please get in touch. |

VIDEO FOOTAGE REQUEST We are working on the idea of making all the old footage (especially the 30th anniversary gigs) available as downloads. Derek wants to compile a list of everything, and he will get them all transferred ready for download or pick and mix DVD's. If any fan has any gig footage, etc, that they think will be of interest, Derek would welcome it for inclusion, it does not have to be the greatest quality just watchable. Marc will be helping with editing and merging different camera shots. |

Ray has called to let me know that our good friend, ROLAND DUNNE has sadly passed away. Roland was a big mate of mine and someone I first got to know back in 1971-ish when he ran the GRIDDLEBONE Club, which was a kind of un-official fan club. It was amazing as he seemed to get his hands on some very rare MUNGO JERRY collectables. He was able to supply me with PAUL KING's rare solo singles, and also let me know of the MUNGO track, 'SANTO ANTONIO, SANTO FRANCISCO'.Of late, he had just taken over as LONNIE DONEGAN JR's manager. All MUNGO fans thoughts are with Roland's family and friends. |

In Australia, a TV advert was released which includes footballer, HARRY KEWELL, of Australia, Liverpool and Leeds United, and now playing in Turkey. The music is MUNGO JERRY, playing 'ALRIGHT ALRIGHT ALRIGHT, and the advert is about soccer, for a company called Solo that have been supporting Australian soccer since 1973, the year 'ALRIGHT ALRIGHT ALRIGHT' was released. The advert goes on for one minute, about kids playing football with squashed cans, with 'ALRIGHT ALRIGHT ALRIGHT' the main focus, and the ending is HARRY KEWELL walking into the Olympic stadium in Sydney. Hi everybody who is interested and prepared to help with a long on-going and expensive investigation. It came to my notice some time ago that a certain number of my master recordings were being licensed out for compilations around the world without my prior knowledge or consent, to third parties by persons and or firms that had no rights to do so. Further more, not I or any of my companies have received payment or statements in lieu of this activity. This situation has been reported to the relevant authorities and it would be very helpful for my case if anybody out there that has purchased or has access to any of these items would inform me of the title of the compilation, if it is a multi-artist compilation or a MUNGO JERRY compilation, if possible when and where it was purchased, what label it is on and a scan of the complete insert. This also applies to tracks from the album, 'A CASE FOR THE BLUES', that I recorded with PETER GREEN, JEFF WHITTAKER and VINCENT CRANE. In particular, I am seeking information on tracks that have been licensed out by the following companies which happen to be companies owned and controlled by the Cohen family, Eliot and Joanne, and the names of which, but not limited to, are as follows, Sound and Vision Management Ltd, OVC Media Ltd, AMI Media Ltd, Waveffect Ltd, Associated Music Ltd. It would also be of interest to me to have the same information regarding, but not limited to the following artists: LES McKEOWN/BAY CITY ROLLERS,JOHN DU CANN/ATOMIC ROOSTER, DEREK DALLENGER, KELLY MARIE, BRUCE AND BONGO, JESSE GREEN, THE ATTACK, THE TROGGS, PETER GREEN, GEORDIE (feat BRIAN JOHNSON).
