WEELEY FESTIVAL B.B.C RADIO SHOW

B.B.C Radio Essex are planning a radio show about the 1971 Weeley Festival where MUNGO JERRY headlined the gig. They have already spoken with RAY DORSET and been in touch with the fan club for input. The show is planned for transmission on August Bank Holiday Monday, the 28th.

On the subject of B.B.C radio, Radio Leeds held a poll with their listeners who voted 'IN THE SUMMERTIME', the greatest all-time summer song.

Thanks to Roger Dopson at Sanctuary Records, I now have the latest news on the release of both the RAY DORSET and PAUL KING double CD sets, along with the final track listings for both. Roger told me, "We're finally re-scheduling both titles for September 25th, however I should add that we're still awaiting both source and images from Ray. Nontheless, they should be out by OCTOBER".

All cheques are being held at Derek's end and credit card details are on file until release date, so you should not have been charged for this. The only exception is to fans that ordered other goods at the same time as the rarities CD’s.

If you would like your payment back or do not want us to hold onto cheques or credit card details please contact the shop and your request will be fulfilled promptly.

The video shoot for DEREK SHERINIAN'S recording of 'IN THE SUMMERTIME' takes place, starting the 25th July in Los Angeles, featuring BILLY IDOL on vocals, SLASH from GUNS & ROSES on guitar. Ray has been invited to take part but it will be a problem for him to attend as he has gigs in Germany on the 24th and London on the 23rd. The single will be aggressively serviced to radio with the video to follow soon after. Release dates are; EUROPE - JULY 27, NORTH AMERICA - AUGUST 1ST, JAPAN - AUGUST 23. Further release dates are planned for TAIWAN, ARGENTINA, MEXICO and AUSTRALIA.

Ray has jammed at Mr.Kyps with ALAN JOHNSON like they did at Alan's friends pub previously and as the logos for Ray's new label RAW SOUND are now ready, the recording they made of that gig will be made available for the fan club shop.
Ray was surprised and pleased at the Mr.Kyps gig, to see that MICK FRAMPTON had flown over from his home in Ireland and joined Ray and Al up on stage, after a gap of three years! Ray has asked Mick to record an album in his home studio for the shop. We are also in the process of updating Mick's interview (on the INTERVIEWS page).

Ray is concentrating on recording at the moment, and still has plans to record with the UK band on 'THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES' after the current projects are complete.

Renowned rock biographer and friend of MUNGO JERRY, ALAN CLAYSON is performing a gig with his band, CLAYSON AND THE ARGONAUTS at CLUB 85, at the junction of Verulam and Whinbush Roads, Hitchin, Herts. SG5 1PZ (Tel:01462-434801) on Sunday 2nd July 2006. Doors open at 7.30pm.

"Definitely more than a band - an experience!"

JOHN GODFREY FOUND!

After a long search, Ray has found and made contact with former MUNGO JERRY bass player, JOHN GODFREY!

They have had several good chats and spoke about recording an album together, in the style of 'BOOT POWER' after the current projects are complete.

John has agreed to an interview for the site, I have so many questions for him.

John told Ray that in the town where he lives, there is a Candy Floss machine that plays 'IN THE SUMMERTIME' with Ray singing after you have put your money in!

The recording for the MUNGO JERRY album - 'NAKED FROM THE HEART', featuring original bass player MIKE COLE, and drummer BRUCE BRAND (who is now working on the insert) has been completed. I've had a sneak preview of the ten tracks recorded so far and they sound amazing!

The album was recorded on eight track analogue at Toe Rag in Hackney, London, the same studio where THE WHITE STRIPES recorded their No.1 album. Bruce is the drummer with HOLLY GOLIGHTLY and also THE MASONICS, HIP BONE SLIM, etc. He also does the artwork for THE WHITE STRIPES, THE DARKNESS, etc. He contacted Derek to say, "I have to say I'm dead proud of 'fulfilling my ambition' of playing with Messers DORSET & COLE. And to think 20 years ago, I thought I'd missed my chance of ever seeing MUNGO JERRY perform! For me, it's easily every bit as good as I'd hoped, and it's good to know that Ray's songwriting is still on top form".

'NAKED' was completed at Gizzard Studio in London from June 19th to 21st, as Toe Rag was not available (MADNESS had booked it). Gizzard is a 16 track and is owned by a guy who used to work at Toe Rag.

They have included a new version of 'STAYING AT HOME', and Ray has already been offered release of the album in some territories.

RAY WITH THE GOODTIME GAMBLERS

The MUNGO JERRY AND THE GOODTIME GAMBLERS SKIFFLE GROUP album has been recorded and, is ready for mixing - Ray told me, "the tracks are even better than I thought, I think that you will all love this one".
