MAY'06 NEWS

I have frustrating news for fans who are waiting for the release of the RAY DORSET and PAUL KING rarities CD’s due for release by Sanctuary on the 22nd May.

Due to a contractual problem the release (of Ray's album certainly, we are not sure if Paul's album will be affected) has been delayed, hopefully not for too long, but we felt it only fair to inform fans that had sent cheques or credit card details to the MUNGO JERRY shop.

All cheques are being held at Derek's end and credit card details are on file until release date, so you should not have been charged for this. The only exception is to fans that ordered other goods at the same time as the rarities CD’s.

If you would like your payment back or do not want us to hold onto cheques or credit card details please contact the shop and your request will be fulfilled promptly.

In the meantime, thanks for your custom and patience and we can assure you that these sets will be issued in the very near future as the new label, RAW SOUND has been set up for exclusive shop issues.

Recording facilities are being built in the rehearsal room in Germany to see if we can record the new MJ BLUESBAND album there in the same way that Ray recorded in Toe Rag, London with BRUCE BRAND and MIKE COLE.

A MUNGO JERRY BLUESBAND concert has now been broadcast on Channel 21 and they have given us some sound files and all of the video to use, we can edit it and make it available on DVD.

Ray has still not agreed a contract for the JUMPY THE KANGAROO thing, even though it has been released in France, Italy, Scandinavia and maybe also Spain. The forthcoming album by THE KINGS HAVE LONG ARMS which features Ray on 'FEELS LIKE I'M IN LOVE' and will be released as part of a double A-side single in June, the album also features PHIL OAKEY (Human League). The album is called 'I ROCK -EYE POP'.

Ray's son James has given in his notice a the Guilford Law College to concentrate on his promotion activites, he's just had 15 bands on in ten hours at the Farnham Maltings Festival last week, very successful, and he is handling all of the promotion and organising the music events at the Star in Guilford, the venue where THE STRANGLERS made their name.

Sadly, the Shetland Blues Festival gigs have been cancelled but on a brighter note, Ray has had a good chat with PAUL KING, everything sounds pretty cool!

SHERINIAN RECORDS 'SUMMERTIME'!

World-renowned keyboardist, DEREK SHERINIAN returns with his 5th solo effort, titled 'BLOOD OF THE SNAKE' due out on August 1st from Inside Out Music. Heralded for his unique blend of progressive rock, jazz/rock fusion and metal, Sherinian continues to push the envelope with 'BLOOD OF THE SNAKE'.
Once again, Sherinian has a surrounded himself with an all-star lineup, including BILLY IDOL, 'SLASH', YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, DREAM THEATER's JOHN PETRUCCI and long-time collaborators ZAKK WYLDE, SIMON PHILLIPS (from TOTO), TONY FRANKLIN, and BRIAN TICHY.

The lead single from 'BLOOD OF THE SNAKE' is the cover of MUNGO JERRY's, 'IN THE SUMMERTIME', which features BILLY IDOL on vocals and SLASH on guitar. The song, a loose, easy-go-lucky summer jam has been a longtime favorite of Sherinian's and benefits from both Idol's smooth delivery and Slash's sweet guitar licks. "In The Summertime was my favorite song when I was 3,” begins Sherinian. “Billy started singing it one day at soundcheck, and we started jamming on it. We agreed it would be a great song to cover one day. Slash was the perfect guitarist for this track."

Wylde also gives his vocal talents a go, appearing on the brooding 'MAN WITH NO NAME', which resembles classic-era OZZY OSBOURNE. “Zakk sounds like vintage Ozzy on this track,” acknowledges Sherinian. “He sings and plays great on this song."

Sherinian, who can now been seen on tour with Malmsteen, has made a name for himself with stints in such high-profile acts such as KISS, ALICE COOPER, and DREAM THEATER. His last release was 2004's 'MYTHOLOGY', which garnered worldwide acclaim from both fans and press alike, utilizing the talents of WYLDE, STEVE STEVENS (Billy Idol), STEVE LUKATHER (Toto) and ALLAN HOLDSWORTH.

Original MUNGO JERRY bass player, MIKE COLE, (who has recently revised his interview on the INTERVIEWS page) now has a brand new website and although it is still being developed, it is already looking great and naturally has references to MUNGO JERRY. The site can be found by clicking on the image to the right.

Most of the recording for the planned MUNGO JERRY album - 'NAKED FROM THE HEART', featuring original bass player MIKE COLE, and BRUCE BRAND has been completed. I've had a sneak preview of the ten tracks recorded so far and they sound amazing! Two or three more tracks will be added including, 'STAYING AT HOME' with Mike playing the double bass and Bruce on percussion/drums.

The album was recorded on eight track analogue at Toe Rag in Hackney, London, the same studio where THE WHITE STRIPES recorded their No.1 album. Bruce is the drummer with HOLLY GOLIGHTLY and also THE MASONICS, HIP BONE SLIM, etc. He also does the artwork for THE WHITE STRIPES, THE DARKNESS, etc. He contacted Derek to say, "I have to say I'm dead proud of 'fulfilling my ambition' of playing with Messers DORSET & COLE. And to think 20 years ago, I thought I'd missed my chance of ever seeing MUNGO JERRY perform! For me, it's easily every bit as good as I'd hoped, and it's good to know that Ray's songwriting is still on top form".

Gizzard Studio in London has been booked to complete the album from June 19th to 21st, as Toe Rag was not available (MADNESS had booked it). Gizzard is a 16 track and is owned by a guy who used to work at Toe Rag.

Take it from me, you are in for a treat - again! The tracks recorded so far are:

  • MOTORBIKING
  • BALLAD OF A TEENAGE QUEEN
  • MAKE ME HAPPY
  • HEY GYP, DIG THE SLOWNESS
  • GO TO SLEEP
  • I'M A LIAR
  • TEN LITTLE WOMEN
  • I'VE GOT MY EYE ON YOU
  • LET'S GO
  • WE WILL NEVER BE ALONE

  • RAY WITH THE GOODTIME GAMBLERS - THEY'RE RECORDING SOON!

Mungo fan AUSTIN MURRAY has added MUNGO JERRY to the myspace.com website and would like some help with pictures, comments, etc.

"Anything you would like to send me for the site would be great! I would love to add some new stuff to it, I check it every day and we're averaging about ten new friends a day!"
