RAY DORSET a.k.a MUNGO JERRY successfully launched the new MUNGO JERRY BLUESBAND album 'ADULTS ONLY' at the Borderline Rock Venue in the heart of London back in May. In front of a packed house, Ray had the place buzzing and vibrating to the sounds of this exciting new CD material. His business manager for nearly thirty five years, ELIOT COHEN smiled from ear to ear as music personalities paid their compliments. Present in the crowd was rock biographer ALAN CLAYSON, ex-Radio One DJ, DAVE CASH who doubled as compere for the proceedings, and current STATUS QUO drummer, MATT LETLEY who passed on his comments to Roland. "Really enjoyed the lunchtime session at the Borderline - I was watching from the 'stage left' side with a good view of the drummer who I thought had a lovely relaxed style. Ray looked like he could have played all afternoon. He obviously enjoys himself - nice to see!"
Another drummer, former Mungo sticks-man PETER SULLIVAN who is now responsible for running Ray's Satellite Music office based at the old Red Bus Studios was moved to say, "I had forgotten just how good Ray is, he and the band have a musical energy that is hard to believe". The MUNGO JERRY FAN CLUB was represented by JOHN VAN DER KISTE, KEVIN IRWIN and DEREK WADESON amongst others who took the time to chat and enjoy the occasion.
Shortly after the gig Ray and the band set off on the MUNGO JERRY U.S.A tour, travelling to and from various States with the highlight being the gig at the B.B KING BLUES CLUB in New York. The feedback has been excellent so far with e-mails and faxes being sent in congratulations on a job well done in re-exporting the blues back to the U.S.A. A special MUNGO JERRY compilation CD was issued to celebrate Mungo's first visit to the land of the Star Spangled Banner in over thirty years. GREETINGS TO AMERICA like 'ADULTS ONLY' is available to fans in the new on-line shop.
Since the tour of the States, things have been a little quieter. RAY DORSET picked up a bug with the extensive touring and was advised to take a couple of months off and rest, thankfully he is now almost fully recovered. Everybody who knows Ray, knows that he can't keep fully still and a couple of outstanding commitments were still fulfilled, so hopefully if you were present at these gigs, you got to say hello.
After the tour of the U.S, Ray also parted company with ROLAND DUNNE who joined the MUNGO JERRY team a couple of years ago with the remit of getting some quality recordings done and some prestige bookings in the diary. The success of 'ADULTS ONLY' and the U.S.A tour meant that Roland waved goodbye with everybody's blessings to start his new life in the States. He enjoyed the tour so much he decided to relocate!
Looking into the future, the next MUNGO JERRY album provisionally titled, THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES' is halfway to completion. Virtually ready is a MUNGO JERRY BLUESBAND DVD featuring the German line-up in various locations and with some tasty editing moves from one venue to the next mid-song, seemingly to the viewer without any joins or gaps. Sanctuary Records who own the copyrights to all the Dawn label material release in October, a 3CD set by MUNGO JERRY which features virtually all the released Pye material in one set. Less than ten songs failed to make the release. Check out the MUNGO JERRY shop for full track and availability details. From this compilation, it emerged that Sanctuary have located with the help of the fan club some recorded but never before issued MUNGO JERRY material from the early days and songs such as 'HELP ME' and 'OUTSKIRTS OF TOWN' could finally see a release in 2005. Watch this space for further news as we get it.
Look out also for a UK package tour in 2005 that could feature MUNGO JERRY providing Ray feels it is right to feature this new blues-based sound.
Hope you are enjoying the material being made available in the shop, virtually all CDs are now available as picture discs. If you would like order any material on picture disc that you already own, contact DEREK WADESON or ALAN TAYLOR and you can purchase at a special discount price. Watch out also for some new additions in time for Christmas! |
